Interest-free period extended

The Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation (SCIC) wants to advise participants in the AgriStability Program the interest-free period for overpayments has been extended. As of January 1, 2012, the collection of interest on overpayments from the AgriStability Program will be deferred for one year. Participants with outstanding AgriStability overpayments will not have interest applied to the balance owing during this period.

Even though this interest-free period has been extended, these overpayments are still due and SCIC can work with producers on options for repayment. Please keep in mind this interest-free period is only for AgriStability overpayments. Producers with Crop Insurance overpayments are still required to meet the terms and conditions of repayment for those outstanding balances.

Significant commodity code changes for 2011 AgriStability Program

Significant changes have been made to the commodity code lists used for the 2011 AgriStability Program.

These changes are part of an ongoing effort to align the AgriStability Program with producers’ business practices and to remove duplicate or redundant codes.

Commodity codes are used when completing AgriStability Program forms to identify sales and purchases of specific commodities. Be sure to use the correct codes when completing program forms, which will help avoid unnecessary delays in processing applications.

The removed and added codes for the 2011 program year are listed in the attached Appendix A. The entire updated code list for the 2011 program year can be found in SCIC’s 2011 Commodity Code Guide at www.saskcropinsurance.com/publications.
