What crops are eligible for compensation?
Compensation is available on: All seeded commercial crops, including crops not currently insured under the Crop Insurance program; stacked hay, silage, bales and honey; market gardens, tree nurseries, sod farms, honey and leaf-cutter bees, and their structures.
When should I report damage?
Producers whose livestock has been killed or crops are visibly damaged by wildlife can contact SCIC. Staff will investigate and determine whether the producer is eligible for compensation. For crop damage, contact your local customer service office prior to harvesting any damaged crop so that it can be assessed.
What do I do if there is wildlife damage on my unharvested crop?
Notify your nearest customer service office before you harvest or put to an alternate use. An initial inspection may be done. The final inspection will occur once the damage has stopped or immediately before the crop is harvested. Compensation will not be paid on any crops harvested prior to inspection.
How is the program funded?
The Wildlife Damage Program is cost-shared by the Government of Canada and the Government of Saskatchewan. Wildlife groups and hunter levies do not contribute to funding.
What if I have to harvest my crop prior to inspection?
If you must combine before an adjuster inspects the crop, the entire damaged area and a representative portion of an undamaged area must be left for inspection. Checkstrips are not acceptable. Compensation will only be received on areas that have been visually inspected.
