SCIC insures crop varieties suitable for local growing conditions throughout the province. Insurance may be denied if you grow an inappropriate variety for your area.
Under the multi-peril program, insurable crops are:
• barley • canary seed • canola • durum • faba beans • field peas • flax • identity-preserved canola • lentils (large green, red, other) |
• mustard (brown, oriental, yellow) • oats • rye (fall, spring) • sunflowers • triticale • wheat (Canada prairie, extra strong, hard red, hard white) • winter wheat |
Volunteer crops are not insurable.
Soft white spring wheat will be insured as Canada Prairie spring wheat.
Insurance is available for both late-maturing tall stature (LMTS) and early-maturing short stature (EMSS) sunflowers. If you grow both classes, production is offset in the event of a claim.
Liability will be accepted on dryland faba beans in risk zones 11, 14, 15, 17, 18, 21, 22 and 23. Irrigated faba bean acres are insurable in all risk zones.
